Have questions about bearings? You’re in the right place.
Find quick answers to common questions about selection, installation, maintenance, and more.
How do I choose the right bearing for my application?
A: Consider load type (radial/axial), speed, space, and environment. For example, deep groove ball bearings suit radial loads and high speeds, while tapered roller bearings handle combined loads. Provide your specs for expert advice.
What does “basic rating life” mean? How long will my bearing last?
A: Basic rating life (L₁₀) is the life 90% of identical bearings achieve under standard conditions. Actual life depends on lubrication, contamination, installation, and temperature—often varying significantly from L₁₀.
What are key tips for installing bearings correctly?
A: Keep everything clean, use proper fits (avoid hammering), heat ≤120°C if needed, and ensure shaft/housing alignment. Incorrect mounting is a leading cause of early failure.
How much grease should I add? Is more better?
A: No—over-greasing causes overheating. Fill 1/3 to 1/2 of the free space inside the bearing. Sealed bearings come pre-lubricated and usually need no extra grease.
